Overview

South Africa and the United States: The Declassified History, a new publication by the National Security Archive, presents a 350-page compendium of the most important previously secret U.S. documents on the policy decisions, internal debates, and sensitive multilateral negotiations that guided U.S. actions toward the southern African region from 1962 to the present.

The primary source materials in this volume are the result of more than six years of research and use of the Freedom of Information Act aimed at compelling the U.S. government to declassify and release information on the hidden history of relations between the United States and South Africa. Virtually all of these records are published here for the first time.

World Briefs: Evidence supports NSA code was stolen

57b46a66c461881b2b8b466fWASHINGTON — Analysis of the cyberweapons that hackers say they extracted from the top secret National Security Agency has left a key team of outside experts increasingly certain the files came from the NSA.

The Russia-based Kaspersky Lab, which has been at the forefront into research of NSA techniques, said it found 347 instances of encryption algorithms in the leaked files that have been seen previously only in NSA-linked computer programming.

A successful hack of the NSA — if that’s what happened — would mark a major defeat for one of the crown jewels of the U.S. government’s defense establishment. The NSA’s hacking unit has been credited with sophisticated cyberweapons, including the code that is credited with crippling the Iranian nuclear program.

Donald Trump: The NSA Is ‘Coddling’ Hillary Clinton

MANCHESTER, NH - AUGUST 25: U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump speaks during a campaign rally in Manchester, N.H., Aug. 25, 2016. (Photo by Keith Bedford/The Boston Globe via Getty Images)Donald Trump accused the National Security Agency on Friday of having the ability to access Hillary Clinton’s erased emails, but declining to do so in order to protect the Democratic presidential nominee.

“I hear the NSA maybe has the emails,” Trump said in a phone interview on Fox News’ “On The Record.” “A lot of people say the NSA would have the emails if they really wanted to get them.”

“Obviously they don’t want to get them,” he added. “They’re protecting her, they’re coddling her. And it’s the only way she could even consider running.”

New leaks prove it: the NSA is putting us all at risk to be hacked

57585409.0The National Security Agency is lying to us. We know that because of data stolen from an NSA server was dumped on the internet. The agency is hoarding information about security vulnerabilities in the products you use, because it wants to use it to hack others’ computers. Those vulnerabilities aren’t being reported, and aren’t getting fixed, making your computers and networks unsafe.

On August 13, a group calling itself the Shadow Brokers released 300 megabytes of NSA cyberweapon code on the internet. Near as we experts can tell, the NSA network itself wasn’t hacked; what probably happened was that a “staging server” for NSA cyberweapons — that is, a server the NSA was making use of to mask its surveillance activities — was hacked in 2013.

Anti-Trump Republicans back former CIA officer Evan McMullin for president

antiRepublicans opposed to Donald Trump are putting up a former CIA officer as a conservative alternative in the US presidential election.

Evan McMullin, who reportedly has the backing of some key Republican donors, has been a member of the “Never Trump” movement within the party. He will stand as an Independent.

He said: “In a year where Americans have lost faith in the candidates of both major parties, it’s time for a generation of new leadership to step up.

“It’s never too late to do the right thing, and America deserves much better than either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton can offer us.

“I humbly offer myself as a leader who can give millions of disaffected Americans a conservative choice for President.

Turkey: CIA Obviously Knows Gulen Was Behind Coup

CIATurkish Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag today insisted US claims of not having sufficient evidence of Fethullah Gulen’s complicity in last month’s failed coup amounted to “ridiculing” Turkey and the rest of the world about the matter.

Bozdag insisted that not only did the CIA obviously know about Gulen’s involvement, but that they would have far more evidence of it than Turkey itself does, adding that “CIA knows Gulen’s heartbeat, how often he breathes, who enter and leaves” his home.

NSA malware menace: ‘If device is connected to internet, it can be broken into’

57b46a66c461881b2b8b466fFiles allegedly stolen from the NSA’s Equation Group and auctioned online by so-called Shadow Brokers are so sophisticated they could potentially be used to break into every kind of device connected to the internet, Chris Kitze, founder of Unseen encrypted secure server, told RT.

RT: The Equation Group is thought to be one of the most powerful hacker groups of our time. And all of a sudden, an obscure hacker or maybe hackers called the Shadow Brokers pop up claiming they have managed to get access to the Equation Group’s cyber weapons. Do you believe the leaked materials are genuine? Doesn’t it all look like a hoax?

Chris Kitze: It’s hard to know what’s real and what’s a hoax, but the fact is that you have people making these claims. If you look at some of the things that have been released, that have been reported in other media, and I don’t have any personal direct knowledge of this by the way, but what I’ve seen from the different leaks and people I’ve talked to, it is possible that it is somebody inside of the NSA, CIA, or some agency that’s been involved in doing some of these things.

Documents Confirm CIA Censorship of Guantánamo Trials

CIAIn January 2013, during the military trial of five men accused of plotting the 9/11 attacks, a defense lawyer was discussing a motion relating to the CIA’s black-site program, when a mysterious entity cut the audio feed to the gallery. A red light began to glow and spin. Someone had triggered the courtroom’s censorship system.

The system was believed to be under the control of the judge, Col. James Pohl. In this case, it wasn’t.
